Lower Keys Medical Center hosted an awards ceremony honoring Sophia Ratcliff-Nunez, R.N., and Courtney Prine, RRT, for the care and service they provide to patients and staff.
Sophia Ratcliff-Nunez, a registered nurse in labor and delivery, received the D.A.I.S.Y. Award for Extraordinary Nurses. She was nominated by two patients who extolled her exceptional compassion, emotional support, encouragement and kindness.
Ratcliff-Nunez was presented with a hand-carved Healer’s Touch sculpture, a DAISY certificate, and a signature bouquet of daisies. The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 from complications of an autoimmune disease. His family was inspired to create the Foundation to honor nurses who make a profound difference in the lives of their patients and families.
Courtney Prine, registered respiratory therapist and supervisor of the respiratory therapy department was nominated for the Sunflower Award, which recognizes non-nursing staff who contribute significantly to the patient care team and provide exemplary patient care. Prine was recognized by a patient for her warm, friendly and calm demeanor which eased the patient’s fears.
Prine was presented with a Sunflower certificate, a Sunflower pin, and a bouquet of sunflowers at the reception.
Lower Keys Medical Center chief nursing officer Michael Hales said, “Sophia and Courtney represent our values in action every day while supporting our vision to make the healthcare experience exceptional for our patients, our communities, and each other.”
