Recognizing Nurses and Healthcare Teams in May
5/7/2025
By Drew Bigby
In my first week as CEO of Lower Keys Medical Center, it has been a privilege to meet the men and women who deliver care and services at more than 134,000 patient encounters annually in our hospital, DePoo campus and medical offices. May is an important month to recognize healthcare workers across the U.S. as we celebrate National Nurses’ Week May 6-12, National Hospital Week May 11-17 and National Emergency Medical Services Week May 18-24.
These observances give us all an opportunity to celebrate the profound impact that nurses and healthcare teams have on our community. They are caring for our loved ones daily, with extensive skills and willing hearts, providing everything from advanced clinical care to nutrition and housekeeping services. Having been in healthcare for more than 35 years, I know that any healthcare facility is only as good as its people. I applaud the cohesiveness and compassion I have seen at Lower Keys Medical Center, as well as the commitment of our team to continuously find opportunities to improve and excel.
We will be celebrating our nurses, employees and EMS partners in a multitude of ways over the next few weeks to show our appreciation for everything they do. I hope you’ll join me in thanking them when you see a healthcare worker out in our community – they provide a vital service in the Lower Keys.
Drew Bigby is the CEO of Lower Keys Medical Center.
