The emergency services registration and waiting area is located on the Northeast side (left side of the main entrance) of the main hospital. Please follow the blue "H" signs from highway US1 and then follow emergency services signs from College Road. The emergency department consists of two Trauma/Cardiac beds, one obstetric bed, and ten addtional beds. It is staffed with highly qualified physicians, registered nurses, unit secretaries, and technicians who provide non-urgent to emergency nursing care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
In addition, either a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is provided 12 hours/day. Triage is provided 24 hours a day utilizing the “Nurse First” program. The ED nursing staff have acquired additional certifications in Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Trauma Nursing Core Curriculum, and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Core Curriculum. Many are also members of the Emergency Nurses Association and American Nurses Association. The staff takes a progressive approach to education involving projects and arranging education inservices hospital-wide.
The Fast Track was developed to better meet the time expectations and flow efficiencies for patients presenting to the hospital for “non-emergent” treatment. The Fast Track is staffed by a registered nurse and a mid-level provider (a Physician’s Assistant or a Nurse Practitioner), in consultation with the emergency department physician. The current hours of Fast Track are 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. seven days a week.
