Cardiopulmonary Services is comprised of practitioners who, under medical direction, actively participate in the care of patients, especially in the monitoring and treatment of cardiopulmonary function. Services are provided 24 hours per day to inpatients and emergency department patients, and up to 12 hours per day to outpatients. Care is provided to patients of all ages with the elderly having acute exacerbations of chronic illness and children with acute disease being two significant groups receiving care.
Cardiopulmonary Services includes:
· Respiratory care
· Electrocardiography
· Echocardiography
· Electroencephalography
· Pulmonary Function Testing
Cardiopulmonary Services encompasses activities in the areas of diagnostics, therapeutics and patient education. Diagnostic concerns include, but are not limited to: the determination of acid-base status and blood gas values; pulmonary function measurements; electrocardiography; echocardiography; electroencephalography. Therapeutic concerns include, but are not limited to, the application and monitoring of: oxygen therapy; artificial airway care; bronchial hygiene therapy; administration of inhalation medications; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; ventilator initiation and management, and respiratory patient education.
- Individuals that provide diagnostic or therapeutic care have appropriate qualifications, training and experience. Practitioner and staff include a physician director, an administrative/technical director, therapists, technicians and cardiovascular sonographers. All respiratory care practitioners are certified or registered by the Florida Board of Respiratory Care and national certifications by the NBRC.

Physician's Orders for Cardiopulmonary Services Scheduling
All outpatient procedures may be scheduled by calling Lower Keys Medical Center’s One Call Scheduling number, 305-292-9353. Inpatient procedures are ordered in the normal fashion via the patient's medical record. A written order is required for all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Cardiopulmonary Department telephone line is 305-294-5531 Ext 3507 for Cardiology, Ext. 4202 for Respiratory, and Ext. 7763 for EEG/PFT.
Echocardiography
Adult and pediatric echocardiography. Please schedule these procedures through the One Call Scheduling Program.
Pulmonary Function Testing
A simple PFT or spirometry consists of a flow volume loop (FVL). A "complete" or "full" PFT consists of a flow volume loop (FVL), static lung volumes (FRC, RV, TLC) and a diffusion capacity study (DLCO). A pre- and post-bronchodilator study or methacholine challenge should be specifically ordered when desired. We offer a full line of PFT diagnostic studies ranging from simple to full body plethysmography studies.
